BSS hosted the 2015-2015 Qld Laser Association River Titles on Sunday, 22 November.
Under grey skies and variable winds of 5-10 knots, 27 boats took to the water for a series of 4 short-course races on the Hamilton Reach of the Brisbane River.
Dan Wright from BSS in the Standard Division was off to a great start with 1st and 2nd placings. However, the experience of Brad Taylor (RQYS) eventually kicked in, finishing with 2 bullets to take 1st place overall. Dan finished a tight 2nd overall after a countback over Daniel Self (RQYS).
In the Radial Division, 15 year-old Tom Needham from RQYS put together a perfect event recording 3 x 1st places, after dropping a 3rd place as his worst result. It goes to show that it's not always about having the latest gear that gets you over the line, as Tom raced in a borrowed sail from BSS. Michael Pitt (RQYS) finished 2nd overall, after another countback put him ahead of Kerry Waraker (RQYS).
Many thanks to the canteen and bar staff for keeping everyone fed and watered. Also, a big thank-you to the starters, finishers and rescue boat crews for putting on a great event.
